Hi to everyone and thanks for signing up for the inaugural Jewfish Creek Bridge
Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk. I started this blog to keep people informed as race day draws closer about things like parking,
expo information, pasta party, route, any special announcements or answers to commonly asked questions. I hope
you find it useful and if you should have any comments, questions or suggestions feel free to email me a candy@jewfishcreekbridgerun.com. Route
The race will start and finish near Reef Dr. and U.S. 1 by the Circle K and the Fire Station around mile marker
106.5 -107. The Half Marathon will start first followed shortly by the 5k Run/Walk. Both races will head up the bridge
on the east bound side of the north bound lane of U.S. 1. The half marathoners will continue their run almost to the
county line and then turn around and run down the west side of the northbound lane to the finish line. The 5k participants
will run over the bridge on the east side of the lane, turn around and run back on the west side of the lane to the finish
line. There will be four water stations on the route starting at mile 1.5 , 3 , 4.5 , and mile
6 just before the halfway point for the half marathon. The water stations will provide water and Gatorade. At each water station
there will be a member of our medical team ready to assist anyone in need.
Expo
The expo is being presented
by AHEC and its going to be great. The expo will be held at the Key Largo Holiday Inn. It's not just for the
runners but also free for the community. You can expect to see representation from all four of our charities, some of
our sponsors and services available to the community such as:
Osteo Screening Skin Cancer Screening Good
Health Clinic Spiometry (test lung capacity) Health Department Healthy Start Coalition
AHEC is also
working to have the Blood Mobile there as well as having the flu shot available. These two things are not finalized
yet but they are in the works and I will keep you updated.
Don't forget the expo is starts at 12pm and runs until
6pm. Registration will remain open until 9pm.
Parking
There are 4 designated parking lots for all participants. We will need everyones coporation
come race day. You will recieve instructions for parking in your race packet. We especially need the coporation
of our locals because its going to be tricky and the Sheriffs Office does not want cars parked all over the place. The
parking lots will be clearly marked and you will have all the info you need to make it to the start line on time.
There will be aboslutely no parking at the Key Largo Baptist Church expect for handicap as this is the staging area.
We will have buses driving participants to and from the staging area at the Key Largo Baptist Church. I will post
parking instuctions on where to go and what time to be there when we get closer to race day.
Staging Area
The staging area will be at the Key Largo Baptist Church. This will be the area where all participants and families
will be until it is time to go to the corrals shortly before the start of the race. There will be entertainment, bag
drop off, registration information table, porta potties, ect. located at the staging area. After the race the fun will continue
at the staging area, as we will have a post party celebration in which awards will be presented by State Representative Ron
Saunders. Food will be available for purchase, vendors to be announced. Eco Eats will be there serving his awesome smoothies.
Race Day Instructions
Please go directly to the staging area on race day. Do not
go directly to the corrals because they will not be open. There will be a mandatory runner's meeting in which we will give
our last minute instructions at the Key Largo Holiday Inn. Time to be announced. More instructions to follow
soon.
Miscellaneous
Things are going great! We now have 229 people signed up.
That is 90 for the half marathon and 139 for the 5K. There are 155 females signed up and 74 males. Participants are coming
from 12 different states including two who are coming from Germany.
The Tourist Development Council has granted us $19,000 for the 2010 Key Largo Bridge Run. Yes, that right I
said Key Largo Bridge Run. There will be a name change next year. It's not going to be the Jewfish Creek Bridge Run
it's going to be the Key Largo Bridge Run. It's shorter and more to the point of location. It gets Key Largo's name
in the title.
We order the medals this coming Tuesday, very exciting! Thanks to Sue Beal from Island Information
Service and to Linda from Key Breeze Engraving for all there help and patience.
Thanks to Amy Slate and Amoray
Dive Resort for donating gift certificates to the run. Your awesome!
Thanks to Pete from Eco Eats for coming
to the staging area on race day! Participants, families and friends can expect to have available for purchase fabulos
smoothies. The best in town.
